RESEARCH WITH IMPACT

Given our size, scale and breadth of expertise, The University of Texas is uniquely positioned to mobilize and drive research that changes our lives and our communities.

Protecting Lives and Communities from Damaging Hurricanes

Clint Dawson, the recipient of the 2024 President’s Research Impact Award, developed a simulation code that is used worldwide in coastal ocean modeling and hurricane storm surge predictions. This helps state and local government leaders know whether and when to evacuate neighborhoods and where to stage resources, saving both lives and property.
