Research Integrity & Compliance
The Office of Research Support and Compliance (ORSC) within the OVPR helps ensure that UT faculty and staff are in compliance with the complex web of regulatory requirements that govern research. ORSC’s goal is to foster the highest quality research by assisting researchers with compliance and research best practices.
The Conflict of Interest (COI) program provides for a transparent system of disclosure, approval and management of financial interests and outside professional activities, which might otherwise raise concerns about conflicts of interest or conflicts of commitment with teaching, research or service responsibilities at the University.
International collaborations play an important role in advancing knowledge and new discoveries, yet can bring risks and challenges. The Research Security program helps foster greater understanding of such risks and facilitates secure research practices to prevent undue foreign influence.
The Export Control program identifies and manages export risks and provides export licenses in support of the research activities of University faculty, staff and students.
The Research Integrity program at The University of Texas at Austin has two primary goals: to foster and reinforce a culture of research integrity through responsible conduct of research (RCR) education, and to ensure compliance with RCR training requirements put forth by federal research sponsors.

UT’s Biological Safety program includes the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). The IBC provides review and oversight of all University research and teaching activities conducted by faculty, staff, students and/or visiting scientists that involve the use of recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules research, or biohazardous agents, materials or toxins to minimize risks to research personnel, the community and the environment.
Every faculty member, principal investigator (PI), co-PI, project director and laboratory supervisor at UT is responsible for fostering an environment that enables the highest level of academic inquiry, while simultaneously complying with rigorous federal, state and University regulations, requirements and policies.
