PhD Students Shafin Bin Hamid and Alexander Chin in Associate Professor Jean Anne Incorvia’s INC Lab recently published their latest numerical study paper "Ferrimagnetic and non-collinear antiferromagnetic tunnel junctions for random number generation and probabilistic computing: A comparative study," in Journal of Applied Physics.

Non-collinear antiferromagnets could be a game-changer for random number generator (RNG) technologies, providing 100x speedup while still creating dynamically tunable random numbers like ferromagnets for stochastic algorithms and probabilistic p-bits. Ferrimagnets can provide a middle-ground with robustness to higher temperatures.

Both students are funded by the National Science Foundation.
