The Nikon A1R dual beam large format multiphoton microscope uses infrared excitation to image through thick samples, including intravital imaging of multiple animal species. It has a large stage area with an open architecture to accommodate large stereotactic equipment, treadmills and other devices. It uses an upright microscope configuration with water dipping objectives for imaging with the front lens immersed in the sample media.

This AXR is equipped with eight excitation lasers and spectral emission for better separation of fluorescence. It is located in the Health Discovery Building.

This microscope is also equipped with a Nikon Spatial Array Confocal (NSPARC) detector that allows super-resolution imaging of standard fluorescence samples down to 100 nm lateral resolution and 300 nm axial resolution.

The TIRF/STORM microscope has a single inverted microscope stand that functions as both a TIRF microscope and super-resolution STORM microscope. TIRF microscope acquires high-resolution fluorescence images of thin samples. STORM can be used for super-resolved detail of thin samples. Fast two-color imaging can be done with the dual camera configuration.  High-resolution single color images can be acquired with the sCMOS camera.
