Faculty development activities supported by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors are managed in the Research Development portfolio. We work to enhance principal investigators’ competitiveness for securing research funding by facilitating research mentoring at all PI career stages; by hosting an annual series of workshops and panel discussions; and by providing opportunities for interdisciplinary networking and collaboration.
Proposal development services for center grants, training grants and other major proposals; OVPR-facilitated collaborative research initiatives; faculty and PI development programming.
Research Interest Groups (RIGs)
RIGs help build interdisciplinary collaborations by convening those who share interest in research topics that span multiple colleges, schools or units, but for which there is not an established unit on campus.
The R01 Club
The R01 Club offers advice, workshops, panel discussions, and training to support and advance the NIH research career of R01 PIs as they transition from being an early-stage to mid-career investigator. This includes PIs whose R01 proposals are waiting for review, and those PIs currently writing their first R01.
R01 Writing Groups
OVPR and The Population Research Center are facilitating R01 Writing Groups for the 2022-2023 academic year. Designed for PIs who have not yet secured R01 funding, writing groups will also receive supplemental training/guidance and specific feedback from experts as they work toward a June, 2023 submission.
OVPR is piloting a one-year, scholarship-focused 1:1 mentoring program for tenured and tenure-track faculty in any discipline. The Provost’s Mentored Faculty Scholars program augments traditional, within-department faculty mentoring at UT by facilitating mentor-mentee pairing across departments and colleges.
Associate Professor Experimental (APX)
APX is a design thinking and flash funding faculty retreat that gives newly tenured associate professors dedicated funds and focused time to envision new research directions with colleagues in diverse academic disciplines.
