Biophysics RIG

Biophysics_RIG_logo
The Biophysics RIG provides a platform for students, post-docs, researchers, and faculty to share their research interests and projects through our Hang-outs. The Hang-outs are an informal space for all to share and inquire. We hope that bringing this interdisciplinary group together will foster new collaborations, inspire new ideas, and be an opportunity for academic cross-pollination.

Meet the Team

RIG Chair

Manuel Rausch

Manuel Rausch
Department of Biomedical Engineering

Dr. Rausch's research interests are focused on soft tissue biomechanics. He uses experimental as well as computational tools to characterize and understand the mechanical behavior of biological soft tissues such as myocardium, vascular soft tissue, heart valve tissue, and skin to improve diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and medical device design.

RIG Executive Committee

Sapun Parekh

Sapun Parekh
Department of Biomedical Engineering

Dr. Parekh works on disease biophysics using molecular analytical tools. His research is focused on quantifying changes in the physical and chemical properties of cells and biomaterials to predict, diagnose, and treat metastatic cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, and type 2 diabetes.

Jeanne Stachowiak

Jeanne Stachowiak
Department of Biomedical Engineering

Dr. Stachowiak is interested in the biophysical mechanisms that underlie the function of lipid membranes in cells, as well as the opportunity to create bio-inspired materials and systems that borrow these mechanisms. Her laboratory develops new lipid membrane substrates and lipid-encapsulated systems and examines them using advanced microfluidic and fluorescence microscopy tools.
