Big XII Faculty Fellowship Program Application Deadline
The University of Texas at Austin participates in the Big XII Faculty Fellowship Program to stimulate scholarly initiatives and collaborations among the universities of the Big XII Athletic Conference (see list below). The program offers faculty the opportunity to travel to member institutions to exchange ideas and pursue collaborative research. Faculty visits will ordinarily be for one or two weeks, but shorter or longer visits are possible. The visitor’s home university provides financial support for the visit. You can apply to the Graduate School for funding as noted below.
1. How to apply for funding to become a faculty fellow to visit another Big XII university during the academic year 2019-2020
Funding available: Up to $2,500 for a two-week visit to help defray allowable expenses for the trip, including transportation, lodging, meals and incidentals. Many awards are made for shorter visits at lower amounts. Funds support campus visits that occur between Sept. 1, 2019 and Aug. 31, 2020.
Eligibility: All tenured and tenure-track faculty members and those who have been in non-tenure-track faculty positions at UT Austin for at least six years are eligible to apply.
Procedure for applying: Faculty will use the Graduate School Online Awards System in UT Direct to apply for a Big XII Faculty Fellowship. Applications are due June 1, 2019, and results will be announced around late June. During the application process, you will be asked to answer a series of short questions about the nature of your proposed visit, and you should be prepared to upload the following documents:
- One-to-two page description of your plans and goals for the collaborative visit
- Letter (or copy of email) of invitation from someone at the host institution
- Short (three-page) CV (a fourth page may be used for an optional bibliography)
Report: After the visit, you need to submit a brief report to the dean of Graduate Studies, describing outcomes of the visit and any future plans for continued interactions that resulted from this award.
2. How to host a faculty fellow from another Big XII university
Invitation: The potential visitor should contact his or her provost’s office or graduate dean to confirm that the Big XII Faculty Fellowship is available at their home institution. Your department, research center, school or other unit can assist prospective visiting Big XII Faculty Fellows by issuing a letter of invitation. This letter should specify the preferred dates for the visit and the expectations for the fellow (lectures to be given, collaborations to be undertaken, etc.). As the host of a Big XII Faculty Fellow, you will be in charge of making local arrangements for housing, office space, etc. for your guest.
Visiting scholar appointment: Once the visiting Big XII Faculty Fellow has been approved for funding by his or her home institution, your unit should request a visiting scholar appointment for the individual.
